On 3 September 2015, Ambassador Ruengdej Mahasaranond attended the inauguration ceremony of 8th edition of Mistura or Mistura 2015, an annual international food fair of Peru, organized by APEGA ( Peruvian Association for Gastronomy) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 3 – 13 September 2015.The event were presided over by H.E. Mr. Ollanta Humala, President of Peru and Mrs. Nadine Heredia, First Lady and attended by heads of diplomatic mission in Peru, diplomatic corps as well as many business representatives.
Mistura is an annual famous food festival of Peru, where food, food related products as well as fresh fruits and vegetable from various regions of Peru are sold and cooking demonstration can be found. It is claimed as the most important and biggest international food festival of Latin America. Mistura was first organized in 2008 at the initiative of Mr. Gaston Acurio, the most famous chef of Peru and his friends. It was announced that during the 10-day event in 2014, 420,000 people and more than 300 reporters visited the event.
For this year, it is the first time that a Thai restaurant participates in the fair. “ Aji555” (booth No. CF11), owned by Mrs. Chanidapa Wongboonsri and her husband, is an authentic Thai restaurant located in the Villa Maria del Triunfo district of Lima. The restaurant, which has been opened for over one year, is gaining popularity among Peruvian and expats living in Lima.
Participation of a Thai restaurant in Mistura helps promote Thai food to Peruvian public and creates Thai business opportunity in Peru. Although Thai food is famous and popular in Peru, there are a few Thai restaurants in the country. The Royal Thai Embassy has been organizing a number of activities to promote the Thai food in Peru including the visit of Thai restaurant businessmen to explore investment potentials in Peru and the Thai cooking classes for local chefs as well as lecturers and students from gastronomic schools in Lima and other cities in Peru.
